ShareWay IP Gateway 1.1.1 Release Notes (Personal and Standard Editions)
The file ShareWayIPUsersGuide.html, which can be read by any Web browser, contains details of installing and using the ShareWay IP Gateway.
If you are running the evaluation version of ShareWay IP, it will expire 10 days after the date it is first run. Upon purchase of ShareWay IP, you will be sent a serial number which eliminates the 10 day restriction.
ShareWay IP is available in three different editions: the Personal Edition, the Standard Edition and the Professional Edition.
• ShareWay IP Personal Edition allows AppleShare 3.7 clients to access, via Internet protocols, personal file sharing running on the same Macintosh as the Gateway. The Personal Edition accepts up to 10 concurrent client connections.
• ShareWay IP Standard Edition allows AppleShare 3.7 clients to access, via Internet protocols, any AFP 2.1 or later server, such as personal file sharing, AppleShare 3 or 4, or AFP servers on other OSes such as Windows NT. The AFP server may run either on the same Macintosh as the Gateway on any other Macintosh on the same AppleTalk network. The Standard Edition accepts up to 20 concurrent client connections.
• ShareWay IP Professional Edition allows AppleShare 3.7 clients to access, via Internet protocols, multiple AFP 2.1 or later servers through a single Gateway. The AFP servers may be running on the same Macintosh as the Gateway and on other computers on the same AppleTalk network. The Professional Edition also includes a number of advanced server management features.
Changes since 1.0
• The display was enhanced to include the number of connected users and the host name of the Gateway, if any.
• The ability to start and stop the Gateway through AppleScript was added.
• A rare bug was fixed where connecting from certain Mac OS 8 clients could cause the Gateway to crash.
• A bug was fixed where you could not use Fetch to save files to a server supported by ShareWay IP.
• Other minor bug fixes.
• The documentation was corrected to state that the Standard Edition only supports 20 concurrent connections. A limitation in Apple's networking code prevents additional connections.

Caveats
• If you encounter problems with System 7.6, we recommend you upgrade to 7.6.1.
• There are a number of known problems with aliases connecting to AppleShare servers over TCP/IP. If you encounter a problem with an alias, try to connect again using the Chooser or AFP Engage! After successfully connecting, make a new alias to the file server and lock it.
• There is a known bug in the Apple IP Gateway that limits connectivity between two machines on the AppleTalk side of the Apple IP Gateway (AIG). If you are using AIG, make sure your clients and ShareWay IP are not both on the AppleTalk side of AIG.
• If ShareWay IP is running with TCP/IP configured to use PPP, ShareWay IP may try to maintain the PPP connection by re-establishing that connection whenever you disconnect. Be sure to uncheck "connect automatically when starting TCP/IP application" in the PPP control panel.
